Just a little about me
I'm Simon Overett and I began furniture resoration as an upholsterer. I discovered very quickly however that my real passion and skill lay in working with cane. The intricasies of the incredible variety of patterns and styles are fascinating. I soon realised that the skills I was continually developing with cane were applicable with other materials too and so I began to expand my repertoire to include seagrass, rush and even Danish cord.
I can renovate you treasured furniture so that it looks as beautiful as you feel it should. Whether you have cane seats, Danish cord seats or Shaker-style; regardless of the size of the task - from individual pieces through to a full suite of chairs
I relish the opportunity to help you see again the true beauty of your furniture.
This selection of images below should help you see the potential for pieces that you may already own!
I enjoy the challenge of tackling something unfamiliar and the massive sense of pride and achievement that the finished article can give.
Every job begins with a consultation concerning your requirements and an inspection of the frame to assess what needs to be done before the main job begins. I will repair or replace parts that require the work, cleaning and polishing the piece if required.
My work has been as varied as working on a single chair right through to a set of dining chairs, repairing chairs and bar stools in pubs, a set of 30 chapel chairs using rush and French straw and even the drivers' seat from a Chieftan Tank - no natural fibres there!
